Recovery

Recovery is possible.

Recovery isn't one-size-fits-all. It is a personal process, and there are many pathways forward.

Recovery may include treatment, medication, counseling, peer or family support, community resources, self-care and other approaches based on an individual's needs.

Recovery can mean improving your health. Rebuilding relationships. Returning to work or school. Finding stability. Reconnecting with the people and things that matter to you.

Wherever you are in the process, hope and support are available.

Being prepared matters.

If you think someone may be experiencing an opioid overdose:

  1. Give naloxone if available.
  2. Call 911.
  3. Try to keep the person awake and breathing.
  4. Place them on their side to help prevent choking.
  5. Stay with them until emergency help arrives.

Naloxone & Overdose Prevention

Carry naloxone. Be prepared to save a life.

Naloxone is a medication that can quickly reverse an opioid overdose when given in time.
You don't have to know someone who uses opioids to carry it.

Anyone can carry naloxone.

Keeping naloxone nearby means you may be able to help a friend, family member, coworker or community member during an opioid overdose.

Know what's in your medicine cabinet.
Periodically check medications and remove those that are expired or no longer needed.
Dispose
Dispose of medications safely.
Drug take-back programs are the preferred way to dispose of most unused or expired medications.

Anyone can carry naloxone and potentially help save a life during an opioid overdose.

Safe Medication Disposal

Don't keep medications you no longer need.

Unused and expired medications can create unnecessary risks in the home.

For most medications, a drug take-back location or mail-back program is the preferred disposal method.

SEKMHC works with community partners to provide Drug Take Back events and education about safe medication disposal.
